Warrior Fight Club 15 brings together boxers from both Estonia and abroad to Tondi Combat Sports Hall on August 22. The first half of the evening is the Martin Linnamäe Memorial Tournament — four amateur bouts and competitive sparring featuring boxers from Tallinn Boxing Club Kalev, Artemi Tepi Boxing Club, Dynamo Boxing Club, Maardu Boxing Club OMK, and Tartu Boxing Club Ring, as well as guests from Latvia and Ukraine. The second half features three professional boxing bouts. In the main event, Stiven Aas and Ivan Matute face off over eight rounds in the up to 90.7 kg weight class. HOW TO GET THERE Tondi Combat Sports Hall, Tondi St. 17, Tallinn. The hall is on the 3rd floor of the building. Free parking with a parking disc in front of the club and in the courtyard behind the club for 2 hours. There is a paid parking lot on the side near Pannkoogimaja. You can buy water, energy drinks, light alcoholic beverages, coffee, and snacks on site. Tarmo bar provides service. WHO WAS MARTIN LINNAMÄE This year marks 109 years since the birth of Martin Linnamäe, a major figure in Estonian boxing history. Estonian boxing history has another important date this summer — in 1921, the first official boxing competitions were held in Tallinn, and that same year several future renowned Estonian boxers and sports figures began training, including Nigul Maatsoo and Peeter Matsov. Martin Linnamäe was a three-time Dynamo All-Union champion, an Honoured Sports Figure of the Estonian SSR, and Estonia's greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. Born August 28, 1917 in Tallinn. 1926–1935 studied at Jakob Westholm's Gymnasium for Boys. 1935–1951 studied law at the University of Tartu, completed degree as an external student. 1936 began boxing under coach Nigul Maatsoo. Participated in the 1939 European Championships in Dublin. 1944–1953 worked as head of the sports department at Dynamo Evening Classes. In 1944 he became Moscow champion. 1945–1950 won silver and four bronzes at Soviet Union championships. From 1947–51 fought 150 matches in heavyweight for the Soviet Union national team, winning 111, with one draw. Won Estonian championship 9 times (1940–41, 1945–51). 1953–1967 worked as a boxing coach at VSÜ Labour Reserves in the Estonian Soviet Republic. 1955–1960 studied physical education through distance learning at the University of Tartu Medical Faculty. From the 1950s onward contributed to newspapers and magazines, writing about boxing. Authored the book "Boxing ABC" (Eesti Raamat, 1965). 1968–1979 worked as a boxing coach for the Estonian Sports Committee. In retirement was director of TPI Stadium. Martin Linnamäe died on January 3, 1994. His students: Harry Buddel, Koit Joor, Voldemar Krimm, Lembit Maurer, Ants Männiste, Lembit Peegel, Rein Pajur, Peeter Zenkov, Jaan Uibu.
